One of Bollywood's most bindaas and loved couples, Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne have decided to part ways. Rumors of their separation were rife in the media for the past several months but Hrithik and his family brushed it off.
Hrithik Roshan made an official statement regarding this on Friday Dec 13, 2013 that read, "Sussanne has decided to separate from me and end our 17 yr relationship. This is a very trying time for the entire family and I request the media and the people to grant us our privacy at this time. I do not wish this news to disempower my fans and the people about the institution of marriage in any way. I am a firm believer in this institution and respect and honour it at the highest level... And Once again I thank my fans for all the concern and prayers for my health, my treatment is going well and I should be able to resume my life in every way very soon. Thank you.
Sussane too made an official statement on Saturday. She said, "We are two individuals who respect & care for each other & have made our own individual choices. We are parents to two wonderful kids & our responsibility remains to protect & take care of them. Nothing can change that. Would appreciate if we are given our privacy in such a time. Thank you for your warmth & concern for both of us & the family".
A childhood Love Story
Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan had a fairytale kind of a love story. Hrithik and Sussanne were childhood sweethearts and got married in 2000, soon after the release of his first film "Kaho Na Pyaar Hai". The actor, during a chat show, had revealed that his love story started at the age of 12, as he got infatuated with Sussanne when she used to play in the building compound.
They grew up in the same friends circle but Hrithik never confessed his feelings for her as he was too shy. Later, Sussanne went to the US and Hrithik started to focus on his career.
Then one day, during Sunaina's (Hrithik's sister) engagement, he saw her again and told his friend that she was going to be 'mine'. Hrithik and Sussanne later met at a traffic signal but they did not speak to each other.
They spoke to each other only after Kunal Kapoor, their mutual friend, insisted them to call up each other.
Sussanne, during an interview with Simi Garewal on her chat show, said that "from day one we just connected."
Hrithik wanted to marry Sussanne and on 16 January 1997, he wrote a letter to her which reads:
I hope this letter finds you in the pink of hunger. I just wanted you to know that I love you very very very much and that I would want to live my entire life with you beside me. Will You?"(As a website writes)
The couple got married on 20 December, 2000, in a private ceremony which was attended by family and friends.
