Twinkle Bajpai or Tia of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa challenge 2005 is debuting in bollywood with Vikram Bhat's 3D film ‘Haunted 3D’. Though she is not new in acting and has performed in daily sop of Zee TV Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan and other serials. She has also done music video of Vikram too. Tia shares her experiences of the film with bindaaskhabar and how a aspiring singer became an actor.
What is your role in Haunted 3D?
I am playing the role of Meera in Haunted. I am sorry but I am not allowed to divulge more serials about my character. Though my real name is Twinkle Bajpai, it was Vikram Sir who asked me to change my screen name to Tia for Haunted.
How is Vikram Bhatt as a director?
As far as I am concerned, Vikram Sir is more than just a director to me. He is a great friend of both Mahaakshay and me, though I should confess that initially both of us were quite scared of him. I have a comfort level with Vikram Sir, which helps me be at ease as an actress in front of the camera. If he lets me to play with my dialogues at times, I do. Otherwise he is very particular about the fact that his actors should mouth the dialogues the way they are written.
How did you bag Haunted?
I had acted in a music video for Vikram Sir’s music company. I have always reacted to situations by my instinct. Though I did not give an audition for my part; Vikram Sir was impressed by what he had seen of me in the music video and selected me for Haunted. I should confess that it has been a jolly roller coaster ride as far as I am concerned, to have been a part of Vikram Bhatt Sir’s 3D film Haunted with Mahaakshay as my leading man.
Wasn’t singing, and not acting on your agenda when you came to Mumbai?
Yes. It is true that when I had come down from Lucknow six years back after I did my second year of B.A (English Literature and Political Science) to take part in the music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma, I did not even know whether would be able to act. The fact is that I had always dreamt of only singing and acting was something which I did not even dream about. I have sung a song for music director Chirantan Bhatt for Haunted. It has been picturized on me.
How did you hone your acting talent?
Frankly speaking, I have not learnt acting at all. I will be able to learn acting is only when I get to play different characters. It was Rajan Shahi who taught me what acting actually is when I was cast by Dheeraj Kumar in his serial Ghar Ki Lakshmi- Betiyaan in the role of Lakshmi, one of the four daughters of Yatin Karyekar. I should also confess that it was Yatin Karyekar who played the role of my father in the serial who helped me hone my acting talent by literally teaching me the nuances and the finer aspects of acting. I’d say that I rate myself as a versatile actress who can strike the right balance between acting and singing as of now.
Which are the other serials in which you have acted, besides Ghar Ki Lakshmi-Betiyaan?
Besides Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan, I had also acted in Ekta Kapoor’s Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in which I got the opportunity to essay a very mean negative role when the serial took a leap of twenty years. I played the role of Smriti Irani’s grandson’s wife Vaidehi in it. It was a powerful negative character and it was great to work with Smritiji who is a great actress
Why did you quit acting in TV serials?
I quit acting in the serial Ghar Ki Lakshmi- Betiyaan, when Rajanji left the serial and even Yatinji and Rohini Hattangadiji chose to walk out. After I walked out, Gunjan Walia replaced me in the serial. If I quit acting after Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the reason is that besides the fact that I was missing singing , I was also falling sick every now and then because of the long working hours that TV requires you to put in day in and day out. Believe it or not, there were days when I used to shoot even for sixteen hours at a stretch every day.
The movie is releasing on 6th May, 2011.
