While the B-Town is being ruled by the foreign imports, yet another strapping lad from the West makes way to the tinsel town. Born in Kuwait and bred in London, Furqan Merchant makes his foray in the Hindi film industry with Rahat Kazmi’s gritty film Identity Card produced by RKF and AMP Combine.
The actor will be seen pairing opposite Tia Bajpai. It was a chance meeting with filmmaker Rahat Kazmi that earned him his debut film. “Although I was interested in films, I had always been away from it. I don’t belong to the film fraternity and my family has a business of its own. It was only because of work that I came to Mumbai and I met Rahat Kazmi through a common friend. That’s how we started talking about the film that he was planning to make. He saw potential in me and asked me if I would be interested in working in the film. And the rest as they say is history,” says Furqan. From ads and theatre to working in a film how difficult did it turn out to be for him? “I did take a few acting workshops before the film went on floors. Also Rahat helped me a lot. He gave me detailed narrations of the script to get me into the skin of my character. My co-star Tia has been a great help too. Despite being far experienced than me, she was very grounded and helped me with my lines and acting quite a lot!”
